Be still my heart.

I want to share something with you. I feel I should do something besides sit here, give the falling snow outside my window the death stare (brrrrrrr), watch the Olympics (wonder how it is humanly possibly for bodies to do some of these things?!? Oh, and TJ Oshie, call me.), and pile more and more blankets on top of myself (okay heat, you can come on now!). So I thought I would tell you a fun little (HA! little... no this is not little, but definitely fun!) story.

This year started out FABULOUSLY for me, even though it all happened in the midst of a big snow storm! Let me paint the picture for you... East Coasters, remember that big snowstorm the first week of January? Well it just so happened that I was invited to attend an interview day at URBN, Inc.'s headquarters in Philadelphia... during that storm. My mom and I champed through it and made it to our hotel the night before my interview just in time for the winter skies to open up and dump all it had on Philly. Perfect. Luckily we had no where to be so we dined at the hotel restaurant and settled in for the night. All while we calmly did this there were frantic people running around the lobby of the hotel (we stayed near the airport) wondering if they will make it to Aruba the next day! Don't bet on it people.

Before I continue the story, let's take a quick detour and talk about the position I was interviewing for. URBN, for those of you who may be unfamiliar with them (how could you be?!), is the parent company of my absolute favorite brands. Literally, all of them. URBN is the mothership of all things pretty, unique, and fantastically heart-stopping. Thanks to URBN, this world has Anthropologie, Free People, Urban Outfitters, BHLDN, and terrain. Ohhhhh, terrain. terrain, you are why we are here today, writing a post about an interview in a snowstorm and I am so thankful for you. At the end of last year I regularly stalked URBN's corporate website and their internship listings. There were pages and pages of positions available, I literally had THE hardest time deciding which ONE to apply for. However, with my anticipation of studying Home Products Development at FIT and a sickly obsession for HGTV, furniture, trips to Home Depot, Lowes, and nurseries, and the most current issues of home and garden magazines -- terrain, URBN's home and garden brand, was the glass slipper. So by the beginning of December I applied, held my breath, and waited (by 'waited' I mean 'refreshed my email 6,503 times a day') for any response from URBN. Then, December 17th I cried. In public. While technically working. I cried, in public, while technically working because I got that invitation to come interview! Crap, now I had to interview.

As part of my application I was asked to create an inspiration of board of how I view terrain as a brand. This is the collage I created and what helped earn me the internship of my dreams!

Fast forward to that snowy night in January. After a nice relaxing night of painting nails and studying the SWOT analysis I performed on terrain's store and URBN's history, I finally shut my eyes at 9:30 PM. No, I did not go to sleep at 9:30 PM. It's really hard to sleep with your heart in your throat and the feeling that someone is wrenching your entire brain. And dear Lord, who put those massive butterflies in my stomach?! Talk about high blood pressure. The ungodly blare of the alarm in the morning practically brought me to tears. But here we go, no looking back.

Mom and I crawled through the snow to the Naval Yard where URBN's ******* offices live. I don't know what word is supposed to be where all of those stars are because the word to describe how unreal the complex and buildings are does not exist yet. When I walked through the door I fell so madly in love that I got about 600 times more nervous.

"Do you see this place, Molly? Do you? If you screw this up and don't get to work here this summer you better hope to God I don't kick your butt." Molly sanely threatened herself.

Let's just relive those beautiful halls, walls, and ginormous windows together. Welcome to URBN.

Be still my staircase loving heart.

These photos are not mine. You can read more about URBN's offices and see a few more pictures here

Hi, are you still there? Did you faint too? Yeah, I did. I wasn't lying right? There is not a word in this universe to describe that. Go ahead, scroll up and go through the pictures one more time, I won't continue the story until you're back....

Alright, so after two interviews and a week of waiting (again, let's remember what 'waiting' really means), I received a phone call one morning extending the internship to me. YES! I literally squealed in the woman's ear. At least she knows I'm excited. Please June 2nd, get here soon! Thank you terrain, thank you URBN. I can't wait to work for you this summer and soak up all of your wordless beauty.

If it's good with you I want to share a second part to this post all about terrain itself. I can't wait to share how beautiful that store is. Get a good night's sleep because it's going to be a doozy!

- xoxo
